Frances Rhine Obituary

Frances M. Rhine, 87, passed away peacefully at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 (All Souls Day), at Mercy Health St. Rita’s. She was surrounded by her children in person or via phone.

Frances was born on August 23, 1936, at home in Ottoville, Ohio, to the late Edwin A. and Theresa (Ruen) Herman.  On October 12, 1957, she married the love of her life, Richard Rhine who preceded her in death on August 31, 2000.

Frances was very dedicated to raising her children and grandchildren and supporting them in their sports and musical activities and events.  She was an avid OSU Buckeye fan.  She especially enjoyed football and basketball.  Frances was famous for her delicious sugar cookies and cinnamon rolls.  Frances was devoted to her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Charles Parish.

She is survived by her children: Jim & Lisa (Badia) Rhine of Prescott, AZ, Kathy & Doug Daley of Lima, OH, Tom & Alice (Kezman) Rhine of Greensburg, PA, Theresa & Barney Beckman of Ottawa, OH, Joyce & Larry Utendorf of Lima, OH, Dan & Stefanie (Ulatowski) Rhine of Lyndhurst, OH and Ron Rhine of Dublin, OH; grandchildren: Alex Rhine, Ben Rhine, Matt (Tiffany) Woodworth, Scott (Ashley) Woodworth, Sean Daley, Shannon Daley, Emily (Tony) Concannon, Ellyn (Michael) Sehkon, Thomas Rhine, Sam Beckman, Kristin (Kyle) Thain, Eric Beckman, Jacob Utendorf, Ryan Utendorf, Jack Rhine, Megan Rhine, Frannie Rhine, and Greg Rhine; great-grandchildren: Carter, Phoenix and Maverick Woodworth, Grant and Max Woodworth, Evelyn, Malcom, Maribelle, Nina, Louisa and Beau Concannon, Adam Sekhon, Lincoln, Leeland and Lilly Thain; brothers: Leo Herman, Carl (Doris) Herman, Ralph (Kay) Herman, and John (Jean) Herman; brother-in-law, Dave Rhine; sisters-in-law: Kathryn Herman, Carmella Rhine and Rose (Rhine) Snyder.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Mary Frances Utendorf and Ann Elizabeth Utendorf; sisters, Sr. Rita Herman C.PP.S. and Edna & Bill Greeley; sister-in-law, Helen Herman; brother, Donald Herman; and in-laws: Kenny & Peachie Rhine, Jerry & Fran Rhine, Wally & Donna Rhine, Bob & Jackie Rhine, Wanda & John Ickes, Paul & Jan Rhine, and Joe Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 8 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A Rosary Service will follow at 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at St. Charles Catholic Church.  Father Kent Kaufman will officiate.  Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care she received at Primrose Retirement Community, Lima, OH, St. Rita’s Hospice and medical staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima Central Catholic Memorial Fund, or St. Rita’s Hospice.
