Georgia Alma Cress

Georgia Alma Cress passed away on November 12th at the age of 94. Georgia was born in Davisville, West Virginia on July 16, 1928 to Eric and Opal Creel who preceded her in death. Georgia was a member of the 1946 graduating class from Galion High School in Galion Ohio. She and her husband Fredrick Cress lived in St. Marys Ohio for many years. During those years Georgia held a variety of employment positions including for the City of St. Marys, at Kellermeyer’s Men’s Clothing Store and concluded her work career in the billing office of St. Marys Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

Georgia enjoyed a life of service finding many volunteer opportunities to share her skills. She was an active supporter of St. Marys Schools and worked hard as a member of the Band Parents association. After retirement she served at the Agape Food Pantry in St. Marys, Ohio and volunteered at the Women’s Health Center at Lima Memorial Health Systems after moving to Lima. Georgia was also an active church member both while living in St. Marys and then at Salem Mennonite Church after her move to Lima. Her many hobbies included square dancing, needle work, stained glass artwork and gardening. Of her many activities Georgia’s greatest joy was being with family and hosting family meals. She utilized her kitchen skills gifting friends with pies, cookies, and homemade candies.

Georgia was preceded in death by husband Fred Cress; brothers Bamford and Henry Creel; and grandson Sean Cress. She is survived by children Kathleen Wittorf (Robert) of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Eric Cress (Mary) of Houston and Larry Cress (Ginny) of Lima. She is survived by five grandchildren Erika Wittorf, Dr. Robert Wittorf, Chris Wittorf, Dr. Karen Cress Finnegan, and Steven Cress as well as six great grandchildren.

A celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date.
