Gertrude A. DeVita passed away at 11:15 am on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at her daughter's residence in Grove City, Ohio.
Gertrude was born March 14, 1931 in Sulz-Lahr, Germany to the late Lorenz and Katherine (Fleig) Ganshirt. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 and married the love of her life, Vincent DeVita on August 27, 1955. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ida Ganshirt and brother, Lothar Ganshirt.
She previously had worked for the RG Dun Cigar Corporation in Lima and was a lifelong, devout member of St. Gerard Catholic Church.
She leaves to cherish the German traditions and devotion to the Lord, her children, Stephen (Marija) DeVita, of Purcellville, VA, Michael (Marilyn) DeVita, of Lima, OH, Carmen (Calvin) Long of Grove City, OH, and Cynthia (Gary) Gerhardt of Ashville, OH, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her beloved sister, Leni Kuhner of Germany, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a parish wake to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, OH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lima. Father Paul Matthew will officiate. Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetary, Lima, OH.
The family would like to express appreciation to Father Watson and Cheryl Jackson (Eucharistic Minister) from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Grove City. A special thank you to the loving care team from Mount Carmel Hospice, Columbus, Ohio.
