Harold had a passion for food which started as an adolescent working at his family’s meat market, Jackson’s Market. He continued as a cook in the US Army at Fort Knox, then as a butcher and manager at Pangle’s Master Market, and later his own family-run catering and meat business. He was known by many as “The Turkey Man” for his unique preparation of turkey rolls which he sold on holidays and special occasions.
