Janet L. Sarno, 86, passed away at 9:34 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at her home in Lima.

Janet was born on November 11, 1934, in Lima, Ohio to Otis and Mary (Kennedy) Wright.  In 1953 she married William J. Sarno, who preceded her in death on August 4, 2015.

Janet was a 1953 graduate of Lima South High School.  She attended junior college, receiving an Associates Degree in Education to teach Kindergarten.  She was self-employed as a Kindergarten teacher in her own home for several years.  She then worked for and retired from United Telephone. She was a very active member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and along with her husband, were huge NASCAR fans. She was also very active in the Y.W.C.A. and C.I.A.O.  She was also a 30+ year volunteer at St. Rita’s Hospital.

She is survived by her son, William “Billy” (Lynn) Sarno of Perrysburg, OH.; grandchildren, Nicholas Sarno of Perrysburg and Victoria Sarno of Denver, CO.; two great grandchildren, Marley Besoski-Sarno and Giavanna Lucia Sarno; sisters: Joyce Wright of Lima, Cecil McDonald of Florida and June Coats of Florida; brother, Roger Wright of Lima; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Tony Sarno; grandson, Zander Sarno; sisters: Maxine Helmig, Ogetha Rhinonock, Mary Scott, Martha Wright, Levina Pugh, Loulla Harman; and brothers, Bill and Carl Wright.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Saturday February 20 at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.  Father David Ross will officiate.  Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in her memory.
