Joyce Anne Woods

Joyce Anne Woods, 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at her home in Lima.

Joyce was born on October 25, 1940, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Richard Woodrow and Marian Eleanor (Mawhorr) Wilson.  She married Wilbur Sherman Woods, who preceded her in death.

Joyce was a 1958 graduate of Shawnee High School and had been a cook at the Best Western Hotel.  She was a volunteer at the Veteran’s Memorial Civic Center, and a poll-worker for the Allen County Board of Elections.  She was also a Soldier of The Salvation Army volunteer for over 75 years, and a Sunday School Teacher.  She was a member of  the Eagles for over 28 years.

Joyce was an avid Steelers fan.  She like to play Bingo with her friends, Stephanie, Clara Belle, and JoAnn.  She enjoyed reading and traveling.  Sally and she visited 48 of the 50 states.  She never knew a stranger and loved everyone.  Joyce loved being around family and held everyone together.  She was everyone’s grandma, and doted on all of her grandkids, related or not.

She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia (Wayne) Sigler of Spencerville, and Carrie Woods of Lima; nine grandchildren: Stacie Fleck, Stephanie (Randy) Koenig, Leea Pennington, Deonna Pennington, Koree Volbert and Amberlee Woods, and Dustin (Sandy) Woods; great-grandchildren: Kiya Fleck, Vivian Fleck, David Koenig, Brynn Woods, Bentley Woods, Bricelynn Woods, Draven Woods, and Logan Woods; sister, Sally Walker; and sisters-in-law: Mary Belle Dixon, Carol Wilson, and Deb Wilson; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear neighbor, Roxy.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Craig Steven Woods; grandson, Tony Woods; sister, Shelia (Ferman) Hall; brothers Stanley Wilson, Terry Wilson, Tom Wilson, Steve Wilson, Richard Wilson, and David Wilson; sister-in-law, Ruby Wilson; and brother-in-law, Ken Walker.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the funeral home.  Major Debbie Stacey will officiate.  Burial will follow at Salem Westminster Cemetery, Harrod, Ohio.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lima Memorial Hospital, doctors and nursing staff on the third floor, as well as the staff at Lima Convalescent Rehab.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
