Walter "Wally" Ray Jones

Walter “Wally” Ray Jones, 70, passed away at 5:32 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, at his home in Delphos, Ohio.

Wally was born on September 8, 1951 in Cambridge, OH, to the late Clarence F. and Bernice May (Moffett) Jones.  On August 3, 2002 he married Cheryl (Lawrence) Jones, who survives in Delphos.

Wally graduated Elida High School in 1971.  He served in the U.S. Army and also the National Guard from 1971 – 1977 reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was self-employed as the owner of Copiers Plus and Tri-County Business Machines.  He also worked at Pangles Master Market, Westinghouse, Ford Motor Co., Beals Office Machines, Lima Business Machines, Lima Mall in the Maintenance Dept., Temple Christian School Band Director, and Elida Schools.

Wally was a member of the Delphos American Legion and was the director and founder of the Hallelujah Saints Band.  He played in the Elida Alumni Band also serving as their Vice President from 1985-1990 and as President from 1990-1994.  He was the Elida Band Booster President for 2 terms, Elida Sertoma Club President for 1 term, Elida Summer Fest Co-Chairman for five years and played in the Lima Area Concert Band.  Wally was also on the LACB board for 10 years, serving as Vice-President for 2 years.

He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church in Ft. Wayne and also recently attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lima.  He was formerly a Deacon and Music Director at Faith Baptist Church, where he also participated in the church orchestra and hand bell choir.  At one time he was the Orchestra Director at Lima Baptist Temple.  Walter loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, his sons, his grandson and granddaughter, his dogs, and his music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Scott M. (Missy) Jones of Elida, OH and Jeff D. Jones of North Carolina; grandson, Brett M. Jones; granddaughter, Avery Brown-Jones; brothers: Gerald Jones of Lima, OH, Donald (Nancy) Jones of Cridersville, OH, Roger (Sandy) Jones of Elida, OH, and Dale Jones of Denver, CO; and sister, Shirley (Daren) Miller of Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Cheryl K. Jones.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Lima Baptist Temple.  Pastor Gary Lovens, Pastor Chris Page, and Rev. Steve Nelson will officiate.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hallelujah Saints Band, New Heights Baptist Church in Ft. Wayne, or Lighthouse Baptist Church of Lima.
