William “Bill” C. Fritz, 89, passed away at 1:49 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his home.
Bill was born on February 19, 1931, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Elmer P. and Grace V. (Bullock) Fritz at the family home. On August 4, 1951 he married Elizabeth Ellen Britt, who survives in Lima.
Bill was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church in Lima. He sang in the choir and was an usher.
Bill graduated from Lima Central High School in 1949. He went to work as a lineman for the Lima Telephone Co. and worked there until August 13, 1951, when he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving in the Army, he returned to Lima Telephone Co. and retired from there in 1986. After retiring, Bill volunteered at Lima Memorial Hospital for several years. When St. Rita’s Hospital opened their Healthy Life Styles in the Lima Mall, Bill volunteered there until it closed.
Bill was a member of Lima Eagles Lodge #370 for 19 years, the NRA for 25 years, and a Life member of the Lima VFW Post #1275. He enjoyed sports and spent a lot of years going fishing with family in upper Michigan.
He is survived by his loving wife Ellen; son, Greg (Mary) Fritz of Troy, OH; daughter, Carol (Dan) Spaid of Bremen, IN; daughter, Sharon (John) Edinger of Delphos, OH; daughter Janet (Mark Sanchez) Fritz of Lima, OH; nine grandchildren: Connie (Rusmisel) Krost, Thad Rusmisel, Josh Spaid, Nick Spaid, Hollie Ramey, Emily Miller, Darren Edinger, Matt Beam, and Megan Barhorst; fourteen great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Kathy Leahy, Betty Fisher, Evelyn Quatman; brother, David Fritz; and sister-in-law, Maxine Fritz.
A private family service will be held at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home on Friday. Pastor Teresa Wenrick will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH.
